Old Fashioned Days - North Salem

On the way to Turkey Run in the morning.
Sunday we spent a wonderful fun family day! We went canoeing on the Sugar Creek through Turkey Run State Park. It was KILLING me to not have a camera. Ok, to not take it in the canoe! I saw pictures everywhere. Next time I will for sure buy a disposable to take on the canoe. The girls looked so cute in their life jackets and the boys so handsome and joyful in the kayaks they each had and Joel so funny when he tipped his and then when he wrestled Drew to the ground in the water after not being able to tip HIS kayak. Very fun! Thanks to Steve, I never even got my feet wet! Next time we canoe, we will bring extra socks, clothes for the boys, etc.
The scenery was pretty too!! We did the 3 mile which was over before we knew it. I didn't know how well the girls would do and it was NOT hot so we could have done the longer trip for sure!
On the way back, Steve found our way to North Salem where I knew the Old Fashioned Days was going in full swing! Here I was able to take some pictures although my batteries ran out at one point

As soon as we parked in NS, the boys shopped T-shirts at garage sale on the corner. Joel picked one that said, "Satan is a Nerd". Later, this man in town told Joel several times that he liked his t-shirt, and the 2nd time he gave Joel a raffle ticket - top prize is $500. Too funny! We went into the soda fountain store that still has the old fashioned soda fountain. I wanted to take pictures but too many people and I didn't want to stand out. The kids got ice cream and I noticed they still sell "Green Rivers". The place is mostly an antique store now too.

View of the old town - Main Street.

Joel's fried Oreos.

Methodist church in the background. This truck was pretty sweet too.

Hanging out at the Old Fashioned Days! I don't know this girl. Drew has traded in his normal Fox apparel for this garage sale t-shirt that was dryer.

The old famous tavern - I've heard it isn't so great anymore.

Katie on the "trampoline thing"! NS bank in the background. And below, the giant slide.

Joel on the trampoline thing! (The sign said "Trampoline Thing")
And below, the giant slide. My batteries ran out for the giant climbing wall.

The house where I used to live is in the background. Corner of Main and Nebraska Streets.
I like showing my city slicker kids the old small farm town.

Melissa, here is our old high school. Under major construction. It looks nothing like it did and I noticed that they have a completely separate Middle school now. Wow, it has really grown up around there.
